What is Key Club? It is Kiwanis Club for high school students. It has been our privilege, as the Kiwanis Club of Liberty Lake, to sponsor a new Key Club at Barker School this year. Barker School is a small, intimate high school that is Central Valley's alternative to the mega-sized main campus. Barker's facilities are located at the intersection of Barker and Mission. Ross Rudeen is our Kiwanis representative at the Barker Club, and he reports the following.
The new Barker School Key Club is doing well. They are really looking forward to the Key Club convention that is being held in Portland, Oregon, this month. They are sending three students and a teacher.
They are involved in a lot of activities. On March 30th they hosted a movie and pizza afternoon for the students in their school. This event helped them raise money for the Guild School, a local school that specializes in ministering to handicapped children newborn to four years of age. Barker Key Club has adopted the Guild School as one of its main projects. On April 16th, the Key Club is hosting a table for the Guild School at the Windermere Real Estate office from 6:30am to 3:00pm. This is a project that we can help with. If you would like to help, please contact Ross ASAP. Thanks
One of the Barker School Key Club members came and helped serve at our pancake breakfast, and serve she did! Throughout the morning, without prompting from any adult, she cleared tables and refilled beverage cups, interacting with the crowd, helping create a great breakfast environment. Another project that the Key Club has taken on will take place on April 21st. That is when these students will be helping move books for Liberty Lake Library.
The club is now ready to send in for the Club Charter. They hope to receive their charter before the end of the school year so they can host a grand celebration. The club is already busy making plans for next year. They are currently working on hosting three major events, one in the fall, one during the winter, and one in the spring. Way to go Key Club, and way to go Ross!
