In the Spotlight

Josh and Kim Johnson moved to Liberty Lake just a year ago, but Josh has lived most of his life in our community. In fact, Josh grew up in the home his father, a local architect, designed and had built when Josh was only two years old. Many fond memories of growing up on and near the lake fill Josh's mind.

After graduating from Central Valley High School in 1996, Josh moved to Siloam Springs, Arkansas, located on the Oklahoma border, to attend John Brown (the evangelist, not the abolitionist) University, a Christian liberal arts school. While at John Brown Josh met Kim, and the two of them were married the summer between their junior and senior years.

In the spring of 2000 both graduated, Josh with a degree in journalism, and Kim with a degree in Family & Human Services. After graduation the couple moved to Decatur, Illinois, Kim's old stomping grounds, where Josh worked for The Harold and Review newspaper. Eighteen months later Josh was contacted by the Benton County Daily Record, a newspaper located in the same geographical area where they had attended college, and offered the position as editor of the Op/Ed page. He accepted and the couple retuned to Arkansas.

Both Josh and Kim look back on their year in Arkansas as a very special time. With her degree in Family & Human Services, she was offered a position

working with troubled teenage girls, providing four to six girls at a time with a loving and nourishing home environment. Josh and Kim were house parents, living in a beautiful old six-bedroom home listed on the Historical Registry. They both very much enjoyed the opportunity they were given to impact these girls in a very positive and loving way.

Just over a year ago, Josh was contacted by his mom with the opportunity to purchase the Splash, which he and Kim did in March of 2004. Their very first edition was on April Fools Day last year. The Johnsons love Liberty Lake, and they love producing a paper that is filled with news about our community, friends and neighbors. He enjoys the fact that the Splash reports on articles about our school or the Liberty Lake Ball as opposed to news from Iraq or the Senate debating social security.

Josh's hobbies include volleyball, tennis, ping-pong, and bike riding. His minors are in history and Bible, and his passions include Russian history. However, since January 21 of this year, his all-consuming passion is his daughter, Kylie Day.

Josh is pleased to be a member of the Liberty Lake Kiwanis club. He sees his membership as a way to give back to and help improve the community he has loved his entire life.
